Sex therapy is a collaborative, educational, and exploratory form of psychotherapy that focuses on sexuality, intimacy, relationships, and sexual well-being.
Sex therapy can provide a supportive space to better understand your relationship with sex, your body, intimacy, desire, and the beliefs or experiences that may be influencing how you connect with yourself or a partner.
You do not need to be in a relationship or currently sexually active to benefit from sex therapy.
I provide sex therapy for both individuals and couples.
Individual sex therapy may focus on concerns such as sexual confidence, desire, anxiety surrounding sex, body image, shame, difficulty communicating needs or boundaries, past experiences that affect sexuality, sex after trauma, and/or simply wanting to better understand your own sexual identity and desires.
Couples sex therapy can help partners explore differences in desire, changes in intimacy, sexual communication, rebuilding connection, navigating sexual concerns, and developing a sexual relationship that feels more authentic and fulfilling for both partners.
Sex therapy is not about prescribing what your sex life should look like. It is about helping you understand what uniquely works for you and your relationship.
My approach is sex-positive, collaborative, nonjudgmental, and exploratory.
Many of us grow up receiving direct and indirect messages about what sex is “supposed” to look like, what we should want, how often we should want it, what our bodies should look like, and what makes a sexual relationship “normal.” Those messages can shape our relationships with our bodies, our partners, and ourselves without us even realizing it. In therapy, we can explore those beliefs with curiosity rather than judgment.
My role is to help individuals and couples better understand their relationship with sexuality, identify patterns that may be getting in the way of connection or pleasure, communicate more openly, and feel more comfortable and confident in expressing their needs, desires, and boundaries.
There is no predetermined goal for what your sexuality or relationship should become. The goal is to help you develop a relationship with sexuality that feels authentic, consensual, connected, and right for you.
Sex does not have to be a taboo subject, especially in the therapy room.
A particular focus of my practice is working with gay men and gay couples around sex, intimacy, relationships, and sexual well-being.
Gay men can experience unique concerns around sexuality that are not always adequately understood in traditional therapy. Our work may include exploring sexual confidence and performance anxiety, differences in desire, body image, sexual roles and preferences, communication and boundaries, navigating monogamy or consensual non-monogamy, intimacy and connection, shame or internalized messages about sexuality, and developing a sex life that feels authentic and fulfilling.
For gay couples, therapy can also provide a space to have conversations about sex and relationship agreements that may be difficult to navigate on your own without assuming that there is one “right” way for your relationship to look.
You do not need to censor or translate your experiences in the therapy room. We can talk openly about sex, desire, relationships, and the concerns that actually matter to you.
I do not accept insurance for sex therapy for individuals or couples. My fee is $150 per session. Sessions are 45-60 minutes long.
